The Wheatsheaf was situated on Church Lane. |

In the 1975 CAMRA Beer Guide, it is listed as a
"friendly, basic country pub" serving Courage bitter and mild by gravity.
How I love beer when it is served by gravity. I used to cycle there to enjoy
the delicious bitter. It was quite the best pint of Courage bitter I ever
tasted - hoppy and uniquely flavourful, from the old Reading brewery. There
was never anyone else there when I visited, which is probably why it closed
down. |
