The Fox was situated on Woodcote Road and is now
used as an Indian restaurant called the Palm Tree. |
|
The restaurant has now also closed and
the site is being redeveloped. |

The building has now been demolished with a new
housing estate, Fox Heath Gardens, built on the site. |

The Fox was one of 3 pubs north of Reading
selling the delectable Gales beer from Horndean in Hampshire. There were no
Gales pubs in Reading - just the aforementioned 3 north of Caversham. The
Fox served a decent pint - either ordinary or special bitter or mild - but
it was a little too far away for me to be a regular there. Instead, I used
to drink at the Pack Saddle in Mapledurham, which was accessible by bus from
Reading. |

I stayed there many years ago 1968
as my aunt Betty and uncle John owned it. I remember a woodland nearby
where we would walk the dogs in between working hours. |
