Swan Inn

Date of photo: 1906

The Swan Inn was situated on the High Street. This pub appears to have been one of the original public houses in the village and was certainly there before the Victoria Arms was built close by.By 1861 the building was licenced as a full public house and the Landlord was Abraham Wyman who refers to himself as both a Carpenter and Victualler. He appears to have remained for over 10 years until replaced by William Wyman {despite the name it has not been possible to ascertain a relationship} but who calls himself an Innkeeper and Carpenter.
George Creamer and family followed him and Creamer was a full time publican.  In 1901 the Landlord was Charles Franklin who was also a Blacksmith and Wheelright.
Although now a private house (it must have ceased use as a pub many years ago), it remains a beautiful old building on the High Street frontage little changed except that the attached workshops for the carpenter or blacksmith have now also been turned into a further private dwelling.
