Nags Head

Picture source: Lost Pubs Of Bedfordshire

The Nags Head was situated on the B660 road from Bedford to Kimbolton. Its location was somewhat unusual in that it was very isolated and no where near any habitation. It must have been intended to attract business on this very busy road particularly at a point between the villages of Ravensden and Keysoe.
As it straddled the village boundary of Wilden and Ravensden many thought that the building was actually in Ravensden.
The design of the Public House, which resembles greatly the Chequers also in Wilden, and the Horse and Jockey in Ravensden, suggests that it was built late 1800’s {possibly 1870}, for Wells and Co of Biggleswade, later Wells and Winch. The first recorded Landlord was a William Fensom who lived there with his wife and young son.
The building finally closed in the early 1960’s and is now a greatly enlarged private house.
