Horse & Groom

The Horse & Groom was situated at 6 Ford End Road. This pub was owned by Wells & Young. Now demolished, the site is used as a car park.
Located 200 yards behind the pub was a community clubhouse called Co-Partners Hall. During WWII a number of Hollywood celebrities came over to entertain the GIs and rehearsed their acts at the hall. The Horse & Groom offered a B&B and Bing Crosby stayed one night. A crowd soon gathered outside and he opened the window and sang White Christmas to the applauding crowd.
